Job Description: Dock Laborer

The Dock Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in order to assist with the installation/removal of docks and boat lifts, and assorted service of marine related products.

Dock Laborer performs carpentry and repair work in connection with docks, piers, bulkheads and boathouses. Depending on level of experience, they may work as a crew member in the operation of pile drivers and floating derricks; use hand and power tools when required; operate a motor vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.  Some of the physical activities may be performed working outdoors in all kinds of weather, using hand and power tools including power saws and drills, loading and unloading trucks, lifting and carrying heavy tools and materials; working on elevated structures; working on ladders and scaffolds; and working amidst the noise of power tools, compressors, diesel engines and pile drivers. If qualified, may work in the water diving.  May work occasionally from boat, barge, or other marine equipment.

Minimum Educational Requirements:    High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

Responsibilities:

• Assist crew with some or all of the following tasks: a) Install and remove aluminum pipe, floating and tower dock systems. b) Install boat lifts and marine rail systems c) Perform service work as required, adjusting dock heights or alignment d) Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment required to installations e) Transport materials with dollies, floating devices, and hand lifting/carrying

• Operate various tools and equipment, including: chainsaw winch, drills and floating devices

• Maintain standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, jobsites, and shop/yard areas

• Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis

Minimum Qualifications/Skills:

  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written in English)

  • Follow instructions

  • Perform work efficiently, demanding excellence in quality of work

  • Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous physical tasks such as lifting up to 50lbs

  • Ability to outdoors in various conditions including heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold

  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • Experience with carpentry, building or outdoor work

  • Ability to swim

Salary: $20 - $35 per hour for a 40-hour week.  Salary commensurate with experience.  Signing bonus.
